You Can Trust God’s Word by Adam Goodenough

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.” Genesis 1: 1-3

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1: 1-3, 14

Have you ever stopped to think of the importance God has put on His Word? The very fabric of space and the universe was stitched together and is still held together by it. When God wanted to reveal Himself and everything that He was, He sent His Word aka Jesus. God has always put a supreme value on His word.

With such a high significance that God has placed on His Word, He also knows that He must be very intentional with what He speaks. Never has God spoken an idle word, a flippant word, or said something that wasn’t true. He knew that if we were going to be able to trust His Word (Jesus), then His word must always be true.

That is why I knew that if God was going to allow His word to be written down, then His Holy Spirit would make sure that it was true. Almost every objection I have ever heard against trusting the Bible as true, was something that had been answered and proved years ago. The more I learned the Bible and the history of the Bible, and the more I heard the objections to the Bible, I realized that God’s Word was absolute. The problem has never been that it is obsolete, but that we don’t trust the character of God. Do you want to know God? You can by seeking His face and reading His word, and He promises to reveal Himself.

CONVICTION

The Bible is either absolute or obsolete.

PRACTICAL CHALLENGE

Read through the Gospels twice and ask God to speak to you.
