Man in the Mirror by Milton Lima

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

There you are before the mirror again, caught in your thoughts. Wrestling with the lies of the world in contrast with the truth of His word.

I found myself in this place a few years ago when there was a person in my life that would check my work like a detective searches for clues, just to show me my failure. It did not matter how much I did, there was always something I could have done differently or better. I was exhausted from living in a place of performance and fear. Without much thought, I began to tie that same mentality to the way I viewed God.

See, the way we think of God will directly affect the way we live our lives. When we think of God as this detective with a magnifying glass, we will live our lives full of shame and condemnation. The wrong view of God will make us think that our actions are more important than our relationship, but right relationship will always reflect right actions.

It was not until a couple of years ago when I realized that I had begun to think of Jesus as “the Detective.” Once identified, I was able to remind myself that God is a God of relationship, a God who is near. The One who died and rose again so a relationship that was broken, could be reconciled.

When we behold the glory of the Lord, and see God for who He is, we will not allow any wrong ideas to enter and to separate us from Him. We must be vigilant in our thoughts, for if neglected, our lives will be a reflection of wrong thoughts of God.

Look again in the mirror, does your life reflect wrong thoughts of God or are you “being transformed into the same image from glory to glory?”

CONVICTION:

You are today where your thoughts about God have brought you

PRACTICAL CHALLENGE:

STUDY SCRIPTURE.

Find what the Bible says about God in relationship with us.

LOOK IN A MIRROR.

Are you seeing yourself as God sees you?

Are there signs of progress in your life?

Are you viewing God the way you see a close relationship in your life? (Father, mother, siblings, etc.)
